Course Description:

The use of hydraulic principles as they relate to liquid chemical application systems including pumps, controllers, and spray nozzles. Principles of fertilizer and granular application systems, safe storage, handling, and disposal of pesticides and fertilizers. New technologies in agricultural chemical application systems such as field mapping, variable rate technology (VRT), etc.

Justification:

Proper application, calibration, evaluation and diagnosing application equipment problems are essential for any agriculturalist involved with agricultural chemicals. By having the ability and skills necessary to analyze any particular type of application equipment, the agriculturalist will be better trained to pursue any facet of agriculture in any area of the world.

General Objectives:

1. To develop and use reasoning skills for analyzing and calibrating application systems used to apply chemicals.

2. To acquire and use hydraulic principles in sprayer selection and calibration.

3. To become acquainted with all types of world-wide chemical application equipment.

4.     To have hands on experience with general types of chemical application equipment.
